Harold Edgerton’s image of a bullet passing through an apple was one of many keystone time lapse photographs. A shutter speed of 1/1,000,000 of a second was unheard of in 1964. With femto-photography, Ramesh Raskar and his team of researchers tapped 1/1,000,000,000,000 of a second. The camera captures light travel – 300 million meters per second.
Ramesh’s proverbial shutter slams open a trillion times a second as a beam of light dances. Watch here.
The implications of this research are tremendous. It is a brave new world and this photography break through is worth celebrating.
Congrats Ramesh.
