Brownsville is located just north of downtown Miami. Working in the neighborhood I couldn't help but observe one assumption after another surface as I made an initial impression. These assumptions were not my own. Still, they existed. An aphotic side of Miami's culture is a blanket perception that Miami's Black minority is low income, poor, uneducated and ill-equipped to do anything about it. A perception that couldn't be further from the truth. These images play on misguided perceptions. These were taken at a civic association meeting held every Thursday of the month. I hope they encourage people to think twice and come to understand these people represent, in the best sense, an unflinching community.
